Islam is a perfect religion that was revealed through His messenger. Practically, Islamic teaching inspired human behavior which finally directs human knowledge suitable with Islamic worldview. Islamic worldview refers to a general conception on the nature of the world, particularly implying a system of value-principles. On this regards, a system of value principles shall be inspired by Islamic tenets or Islamic moral philosophy.
Islamic worldview is compulsory paradigm of every Muslim. This worldview would help answering questions on why, and how human being exist. As consequence, Muslims are required to have a certain knowledge on how to integrate between knowledge and Islamic teachings, which is then called as Islamization of Human knowledge. Having seen that Islamization of human knowledge is important, some Islamic scholars such as At Attas and Al Faruqi involve in an attempt to Islamize human knowledge. Islamization of human knowledge desribes a variety of attempts and approaches to synthesize the ethics of Islam into contemporary knowledge.
The Islamization of human knowledge is set as a response the fundamental crisis of the modern-day ummah that have misconception of knowledge. This condition implies to a need for curriculum reform particularly in Islamic economics program. However, the further challenge in terms of Islamizing it is that, the curriculum should have the ability to shed light the different between what is considered as knowledge and not. Finally, correct identification of knowledge can avoid “confusion of knowledge” and prevent “the loss of adab” among Muslim ummah.
Having realized the importance of Islamization of human knowledge, there is a need for an intensive discourse, and evaluate the current progress of this efforts. Therefore, to further strengthen the efforts and accelerate its progress, International Program for Islamic Economics and Finance (IPIEF) puts highly concern of this Islamization of knowledge agenda by organizing a International Summer School Course.
